My Thoughts Exactly:

Philosophers Answer the Age-Old Question: Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

Just got off the phone with my mother, who is back from London. She's enjoying screwing with my mind these days; apparently, the hotel had free video rental, and so she took the opportunity to see a movie that my father has no interest in: 8-Mile.

"No, really! I was sitting in my hotel room knitting, watching Eminem!"

Apparently Anna, the girl I nannied, has developed a fascination with him. His claims about his mother and her poor care for him resonate with her pre-foster care memories. She went and saw her mother a little while ago, and it really struck her how sad it is that her little brothers are so poorly cared for, and that her mother still believes that her father is coming home.

Not long after that, Susan took Anna to a farmer's market in San Rafael, and turned around to see Anna crying. Anna was watching her father, who was there with a 15-year-old girl. Yes, that sort of "with." Anna went up to him and gave him a piece of her mind. Incredible for a thirteen year old.

In other news, last night Dan and I watched Gladiator. Emily was there for the first few scenes.

Emily: "It kinda sucks to be the Germans. (Short time passes) Okay, maybe it a lot sucks to be the Germans."

Dan: "I had a friend who called this 'Robin Hood, Men in Togas.'"

My mother says that Russell Crowe is quite the knitter. I tried really hard not to make any puns about Crowe-neck sweaters.

Went to the Aquarium today. I love the Belugas. Dan was dismayed by the museum's grammar.

"'Fishes'? What the hell is a 'fishes'?"

And my father wants to see Day After Tomorrrow. I told him I would have no part in it.

The eleventh essay hour...

... I think my brain just short-circuited.

In other news...

The UK pondered suicide pigeon attacks.

It is storming again, earlier in the day than it ever does at home. Absolutely raining buckets. Very impressive.

My Evening

Walk in the rain, shoeless and very happy. Cheeseburger for dinner. Penelope Cruz as a pregnant nun. Long talk with Dan. Reflexive Passive Voice. Bed.

This Week's Plan

Monday: Two Spanish presentations on literature, one problem set, and one short story that needs read for Spanish class.

Tuesday: Physics Lab. And 40 pages of Kant reading.

Wednesday: Spanish exercises, re-Take of the Calculus Midterm

Thursday: Physics Problem Set Due, must finish all 5th Hour activities for Spanish.

Friday: More spanish exercises, I suppose.

I wish I knew when the next physics mid-term is. I certainly hope it's not Tuesday...

Quote for Three Months

"Well, if you didn't want us to know you had a girlfriend, why did you link to her blog?"

Monday, May 10, 2004

One of those days.

Nothing I want to wear fits, that which fits dosn't look good, and once I get an outfit together that I like, I don't have any shoes to match.

Sometimes it would be easier to be a guy.

Fact: The word "cathedral" comes from "cathedra," which means "seat of the bishop." That is, the seat where the bishop sits.

Fact: Fr. Yakitis is on the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen beatification committee.

Fact: Fulton Sheen's cathedra is sitting in the Calvert House foyer, wrapped in bubble wrap.

And there was much rejoicing. Yay...

Looks like Miklos will be having us re-write our midterms. This means:

1) More people did about as poorly as I did, or at least, if not quite so miserably, pretty badly. Note to self: must ask Rafal about this.

2) I might still pass the class.

And with that, I need to go print out a spanish essay.

Stuart Gazes: "You could call it "Problem Set Volume II," with less violence and greater critical acclaim."

Update for the Week

"Did you see the week this girl has?" asked Nick, so I thought I'd be polite and give you all the update as to what is going on.

Today, as soon as I get out of the shower, I am going to the library to write my essay (I didn't have the movie until last night) and read the Physics book so that I will know what is going on in the lecture today. I don't know how I am going to get my Hum reading done. Then either before or after Physics I can go and drop the essay off in my professor's mailbox, and sign up for two spanish conversations.

I should probably also find out what the spanish homework is... but I'm not entirely sure she assigned anything. I'll do that tonight, and write up a page for my final cultural activity, on the same movie. I will also, I suppose, bury myself in Calculus, but yesterday's performance on the midterm really makes me want to avoid the book as much as possible. However, I have promised myself that I will get those problem sets done. They may not be done by 3:00 tomorrow, but they will certainly be done for Monday. I hope.

Somewhere in there I ought to go to Walgreens. And, you know, eat.

"God withholds himself from no one who perseveres." - St. Teresa of Jesus.

This week's instructions: If you see me, remind me that I should be in the library, or at Breck, or praying. I'll be lucky if I have time to breathe this week.

The Week's Plan:

Monday: The essay questions that I didn't turn in on Friday must be done, as well as the new set that I am currently working on. Also, I have two chapters to read for my lector session by 4:30 tomorrow. Oh, and a problem set due, and for some reason my brain won't process complex numbers. Funny how that works. Did I mention the listening quiz in Spanish?

Tuesday: Nothing due, but there is a Physics lab that I am trying to change to Wednesday afternoon for this week, because there is the in-house lottery, and the Miklos and post-docs take on first years basketball match, and then on Wednesday...

Wednesday: Calculus Midterm! I am so dead... and then an essay due, in Spanish. For which I need to watch a movie. When do I have time to watch a movie? Even if it is one of my favorite movies, oh, ever.

Thursday: Reading for Hum. I'll have an essay due next Tuesday. Friday there will be Spanish homework due.

And somewhere over this week I need to make up two (2) cultural activites for Spanish, as well as this week's, and four (4) (count them!) 163 problem sets.

So, I know we made fun of Miss Anna R. for this, but... guys... pray for me? I'll try to go to bed at 3:00, but I make no promises.

"Let nothing disturb you; nothing frighten you. All things are passing. God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Nothing is wanting to him who possesses God. God alone suffices." - St. Teresa of Jesus (from her bookmark.)
