Just once it would be nice to have a romance (or non-romance) for which Dar Williams' Iowa is not an appropriate theme.
How I long to fall just a little bit, to dance out of the lines and stray from the light,
But I fear that to fall in love with you is to fall from a great and gruesome height.

At least it isn't the USS Iowa as an appropriate thing.

become a bungee jumper.
If only that didn't already seem an apt metaphor for past relationships.
Careful with those screen doors, Alice.

There are a variety of Focus on the Family publications meant to help young women deal precisely with this problem. I personally recommend Boundless [if you avoid the campy and stupid Evangelical articles, I recommend particularly Budziszewski's stuff], found at boundless.org.

FotF = ANATHEMA
Veronica, who also grew up with them, says "not always", but I disagree.

I can understand your aversion and I, being a liberalist American college student [impeccable credentials available on request], fully sympathise. However, despite the horribly campy tone of Budziszewski's articles [which I believe is done to "relate" to a younger audience], they are quite insightful and thought-provoking explorations of the modern romantic topography whether one agrees or not. And, hey, Boundless printed some Leon Kass material: they can't be all bad. I can't/won't vouch for any of their other material, however.

Miss V. and I have both been victims of gift subscriptions to "Brio", their magazine for teen girls.

Every relationship will be a fall for you if that is what earthly love is...a distraction.

How many (non-FoF) magazines for "teenage girls" are NOT cringe-inducing? Now, I have a sort of instinctual aversion to FoF, but after a bit of soul searching I have concluded that most of it is snobbery -- like most evangelical groups, they are distinctly low-brow both intellectually and aesthetically. In the grand scheme of things, that is a rather minor sin. I definitely consider the fact that I would rather surround myself with “sophisticated” but immoral people than with FoF and their ilk a serious moral failing.
